Back to TopWebsite Design Do's and Dont's
If you are a beginner, it is VERY easy to go overboard on web design, which ultimately will cause visitors to leave your website. When you are first building a website keep the following in mind.
Do Keep it simple: Don't clutter your website with meaningless content that has nothing to do with your website.
Don't Have Multiple Fonts: Keep your fonts according to web standards. Standard fonts for Websites are Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman or Verdana.
Don't use a Flash introduction:Flash can give your website an ultra-cool affect. But truth be told, most visitors will click the "skip the intro" link or even worse, leave your website before the page loads. The goal is to get visitors to see your website, not leave it.
Don't put huge, slow loading graphics on your web page: You run the risk of website abandonment if your graphics take too long to load. If your graphics are to big in file size consider using software, such as PhotoShop to optimize your images for the web. If you don't have optimizing software then you can optimize your images at no cost by going to: NetMechanic.com
Don't put loud music on your website: Not only is this unnecessary but it does not do anything at all for your website except cause visitors to abandon it. Don't do it.
Do make sure your visitors know what your website is about: If you sell nuts and bolts, then this should be obvious right away. Never leave the visitor guessing as to the purpose of your website or they will abandon it.
Back to TopHow to Upload Your Website
Once your web pages have been created, you have to upload them to your web host's server. You may even heard of publishing your website, which shares the same concept.
Using the build a website software from your web host: If you are using the built in website software from your web host all the files will already be on the server. All you would need to do is follow the instructions provided by your web host to publish your pages to make them live.
Using another stand alone website builder: If you are using another stand alone website builder such as DreamWeaver, you would need to to log into your FTP account. Once you have logged into your ftp account, you can easily upload your web pages. to upload your files.
